Dunston 3-0 Emley

Martin Eastwood1 Mar - 20:23

Pewits 'Dun' by the Feds in the North East on a miserable day.

Emley suffered back to back defeats for the first time this season and the first time since March last year following a 3-0 defeat at Dunston UTS in a torrid afternoon on Tyneside.

It was the Pewits' second away defeat in succession, again, a first this season. Up to Tuesday night, Emley had lost only once in the league all season and only conceded 3 goals, we have now conceded 4 in our last two away from home and failed to score in any of the last three.

In truth, Emley were never really in this game, in probably the worst performance of the season there was very little for Emley's travelling fans, who once again, travelled to the North East in numbers , to cheer.

Dunston made all the early running but didn't really test Lambton, despite having all the chances early on, a cross-shot from the left in the first minute was wide as was a speculative shot from almost the half way line a few minutes later.

Emley did offer a bit of hope when Berchil's through ball found Nzondo but his attempted ball in to the box was cleared, Dunston then saw the best chance so far fail to land a blow when a clean shot ran inches past the post and out.

Emley looked to attack, but Parkin's shot from the edge of the D was off target and then the Pewits' best bit of action so far saw Berchil put his foot down and beat 2 defenders, his ball in went for a corner, from the corner, the ball was cleared and then returned again by Berchil but the ball eventually went for a throw in to Dunston.

Dunston then had a half chance but Lambton's save saw a corner for the hosts, it was cleared by the Emley defence, but just 2 minutes later the defence was finally breached as a deep cross was headed in at the far post and for the second game in a row, Emley found themselves behind with less than half an hour gone.

Emley then pushed up looking for an equaliser, Berchil was fouled on the left and Parkin's free kick couldn't beat the first man, the second attempt was too far deep but Lawrence managed to keep it in play before eventually conceding a throw as a stricken Chris Dawson was replaced by Metcalfe in the engine room.

Another chance for the hosts as Dunston broke quickly down Emley's right, the shot was on target but Clayton did well to block the initial attempt, a minute later and Lambton was forced into collecting a dangerous cross as Emley were getting pulled all over in defence.

Just before the break and Emley's best chance came and went, following good play in midfield, the ball was spread left into the path of Berchil who squared for Parkin who fired agonisingly wide of the post.

H/T- Dunston 1-0 Emley

For the second game in succession, Emley fans were left to reflect on being a goal down at half time and hoped the second half would see an improved performance, sadly, it was more of the same, with Emley failing to capitalise on the few chances we did create and fail to deal with Dunston's attack.

The second half was barely 5 minutes old when Dunston struck a second and crucial goal, from some uncertainty at the back from Emley, the ball was played into the path of Robinson who fired low and hard past Lambton.

Emley had barely got out of their own half and were now two down and being pushed back and forced into sloppy mistakes by the hosts, although they did manage to finally put an attack together, Berchil, cutting in from the left couldn't find space to shoot, instead it fell to Hayden Lindley who blasted wide.

Another change for Emley as Belchior Rodrigues replaced Donae Lawrence, and Emley went on the attack, Parkin's tenacity saw him win the ball wide right and he planted a ball over, it dropped at the edge of the area for Metcalfe who blazed over on the volley.

Within two minutes, the rampant hosts added a third and the game was up for a disjointed Pewits, a swift counter attack saw the defence split apart, the ball was squared, again to Robinson who slotted home with ease and leave the defence, who until the last 150 minutes had looked solid, totally shellshocked.

It was no more than Dunston deserved really, Emley just couldn't get into their stride and Dunston made them pay for any mistakes or sloppiness, it was almost 4 not long after, when the defence was again at sixes and sevens but thankfully the shot grazed the bar on it's way over.

More Emley changes as the men in orange desperately searched for any kind of way back into it, Curtis replaced Parkin, Hardaker for Baldwin and Barks for Clayton.

In between those changes, another good Emley chance went begging, a good move between Nzondo and Curtis saw Nzondo in the clear, with the goals in sight, he slammed his shot high over the bar rather than low into the corner and that was that really, Emley's only other chance saw Hardaker fire a free kick wide in the final moments.

But the damage was already done, a disappointing day for the play off chasing Pewits, who stay second, but all the other play off contenders won and the gap has been narrowed as Emley have now dropped 8 points from the last 9 available following 6 straight wins, with Ashington to come on Saturday, a big week needed to lift the squad now.
