Pewits battling to keep alive in penultimate week

Emley host Pontefract Collieries in the Northern Premier League Division One East on Saturday (3pm) looking to keep the season alive as the regular season comes to an end.

Emley have exceeded many expectations by competing at the top for most of the season following promotion but our play off hopes hang by a thread going into the penultimate week of the season with just 3 games to go.

It's the first game of 3 which will determine whether Emley's season ends on 26th April or whether we extend that for another week in the play off for promotion.

Saturday's game is followed by a tough game at Stocksbridge on Easter Monday and with Emley currently 5th, Stocksbridge are our nearest rivals for a play off spot, but first, we host Pontefract in our penultimate home game.

Pontefract Collieries were formed in 1958 and like Emley, were founder members of the NCEL in 1982, and were members of the NCEL until promotion to the NPL following successive promotions in 2017 and 2018, Emley are looking to emulate Ponte's achievements but must do it through a play off.

The sides drew 0-0 at Pontefract in the Autumn as Emley looked to establish themselves in the NPL after 25 years away, a win on Saturday will give The Pewits a massive boost heading into the final two games.

Emley's form is a major concern, having been firmly in the top 3 until the end of February, we have suffered 7 defeats in our last 10 league games, conceding 13 and scoring only 4, a far cry from our previously good record, Pontefract are mid table, but still want to pick up points to finish as high as they can.

Last time out:
Belper Town 2-0 Emley, NPL D1 E, Att- 657
Pontefract 1-1 Bishop Auckland ( Burns), NPL D1 E, Att- 317.
