Third time lucky? The Pewits head to the East coast again

Emley travel to East Yorkshire to face North Ferriby in the rearranged Northern Premier League Division One East on Tuesday (7.45pm) looking to close the gap on leaders Cleethorpes and maintain our good away record.

The original game scheduled for 11th January and the rescheduled game on 28th February both succumbed to the weather and hopefully the match will be now played at the third attempt!

It will be only the second visit this century to The Dransfield Stadium, although there had been plenty of meetings between the original Emley and North Ferriby United, and this will be the fifth meeting in all between the current clubs.

Ferriby, of course, were the first team to defeat the promoted Pewits this season, following Emley's unbelievable start to the season which saw us top the early league table with 6 wins and 2 draws from our first 8 games, that defeat, 2-1 at home came in game 9.

North Ferriby FC were formed 5 years ago when the village's previous club, North Ferriby United were liquidated, the previous club scaled great heights, reaching the National league and beating Wrexham at Wembley in the 2015 FA Trophy final, the new club which rose from the ashes started life in the NCEL Division 1 where their first 2 seasons were brought short due to the Covid pandemic.

In season 2022/23 they would be involved in a promotion tussle with Emley out of the NCEL Premier Division, alas, Ferriby were crowned league champions and Emley missed out altogether but would follow North Ferriby into the NPL as NCEL champions in 2022/23.

But now, both clubs are looking to progress to the NPL Premier Division, remarkable considering both villages combined have a total population of just over 5,000!

Emley sit second following our 0-0 draw at the weekend while Ferriby slipped out of the play places following back to back home defeats, however, only 9 points separate Ferriby in 6th and Emley in second as the play off race hots up.

Our last away game saw us continue or brilliant away form by winning 1-0 in the local derby at Brighouse and we will be hoping to extend that record, albeit at a ground that Emley haven't won at, or indeed scored at since March 1982!

Last time out:
North Ferriby 0-1 Brighouse Town, Att- 520, NPL D1 East
Emley 0-0 Heaton Stannington, Att- 399, NPL D1 East.
