Emley welcome Liversedge to the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground for only the second time this century when we clash in the Northern Premier League Division One East on Saturday (3pm).
This will be the first league meeting at Emley since a Yorkshire League game in January 1981, the only other meeting at the Welfare Ground was an NCEL League clash in 2015, altogether, it will only be the 12th time these sides have faced other competitively and only the 4th time this century.
Liversedge will be looking to improve a dismal record against Emley in competitive games, of the previous 11 contests there have been 8 Emley wins, 3 draws and a solitary win for Sedge back in 1979!
Liversedge FC were founded in 1910 and were members of the West Riding County League until 1972, when they joined Emley in the Yorkshire League, both becoming founder members of the Northern Counties East League in 1982.
Following 4 decades as members of the NCEL, 'Sedge were promoted to the NPL in 2021-22 as they looked to storm up the leagues, crowds increased from an average of just 83 in their last full season in the NCEL Premier to over 500 in their first season in the NPL, they stormed to the NPL D1 East title in their first season losing only once in the league.
However, that surge wouldn't last and they were relegated straight back to Division One in 2022-23, finishing mid table last season and the crowds have now dropped back down to around 200, the incredible attendance of 1,559 seems a distant memory now.
Emley have defied any expectations anyone could have had so far, our great start saw us as unbeaten league leaders at one point, but our home form has seen us drop off slightly, although we remain unbeaten away following last Saturday's win at Bridlington, Cleethorpes and Belper's defeats meant we moved back to second, only two points behind Cleethorpes.
Emley have won 4 out of the last 5 in all competitions and Liversedge have won 2 out of their last 10, last week's win was their second in 3 games though.
Liversedge sit 14th and have had a mixed campaign so far and can't seem to get any kind of run going, but last weekend's 4-0 win away at Ashington was impressive, Emley of course won the first game 2-0 and will look to complete a league double in the Kirklees derby!

Bridlington Town 0-2 Emley (Curtis, Cowgill) Att- 355, NPL D1 East
Ashington 0-4 Liversedge ( Amponsah, Carr, Raw, Akresi) Att- 297, NPL D1 East.
