It's a fifth trip to the North East for Emley this season when we travel to Newcastle to face Heaton Stannington in the Northern Premier League Division One East on Saturday (3pm).
The near 220 mile round trip sees Emley currently in 2nd place in the table having seen their remarkable run and stay at the top ended by Tuesday's defeat to Cleethorpes, who now take over top spot from Emley.
Tuesday's game was Emley's 3rd without a win but only the second league defeat of the season and The Pewits are only 2 points behind Cleethorpes so could still retake top spot this weekend.
Our hosts, who we met only last year in the FA Vase, the only previous meeting between the sides, like Emley, also gained promotion last season, from the Northern League, finishing 3rd but winning the play off final.
"The Stan" were formed in 1910 and played in various leagues before joining the NL in 1939-40, after the war, they left the NL and played in various local leagues before rejoining the Northern League in 2013-14 after winning the Northern Alliance.
After winning promotion from NL 2 in 2021-22 they finished 8th and 3rd before promotion to the NPL last season, they play at Grounsell Park in the High Heaton area of Newcastle, and are currently 14th in NPL D1 East, 15 points behind Emley following their 0-0 draw with bottom club Sheffield midweek.
Last time out:
Heaton Stannington 0-0 Sheffield, Att -249
Emley 0-3 Cleethorpes Town, Att- 573, NPL D1 East.
