Preview: Brighouse Town (H)

Martin Eastwood16 Sep 2024 - 07:33

Pewits and Town try again in a game which sees free entry to all.

It's another local derby for Emley on Tuesday night when we welcome Brighouse Town back to the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground for a NPL D1 East clash (7.45pm)

It’s a reschedule of the original game, which was abandoned on the August Bank Holiday Monday due to an injury to the Brighouse goalkeeper, who had to wait for an ambulance to take him to the hospital.

Following Saturday’s 2-0 derby win at Liversedge, Emley sit second and have a chance to go top of the table with another win—a remarkable feat, given it’s their first season at this level in 25 years.

No one will be getting carried away though as it's still early days but Emley have been impressive for spells in most of their games so far, winning 4 and drawing 1 of their 5 league games at the higher level.

Brighouse are currently 7th and are 6 games unbeaten since a 5-1 thumping at Cleethorpes Town in August so a tough test for both sides.

Brighouse were formed in 1963 as a works team, playing the Huddersfield Works League, winning it numerous times between 1966 and 1975 before joining the West Riding league in 1975, they were renamed Brighouse Town in 1988 and were successful in the West Riding league and cups in the 90's and early 00's, eventually joining the NCEL in 2008, winning promotion to the Premier Division in their second season, they remained in NCEL Premier until promotion to the NPL was secured in 2014.

They are nicknamed "town" and play at St Giles Road in the Hove Edge area of the town which has a capacity of 1,000.

This will be the 7th competitive meeting between the 2 teams with the last one coming in February 2012, an NCEL league cup 3rd round tie at Emley which Brighouse won 2-0, all the previous clashes were in the NCEL, either league or cup, there was a friendly between the sides last season which Brighouse also won 2-1.

Emley were 1-0 up before the unfortunate incident that led to the original game being abandoned.
