Pewits look to maintain play off push as Seasiders visit the Welfare Ground.

Promotion chasing Emley welcome relegation threatened Bridlington Town to the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground for a crucial Northern Premier League Division One East clash on Saturday (3pm).

The game is vital for both clubs for very different reasons, Emley are still in the play off hunt despite a dismal run of form which has seen the former league leaders pick up just 7 points from a possible 24 in the last 8 games and have lost 5 of the last 10 in all competitions to lose the grip on second place, we are now 3 points behind Dunston and 10 points behind champions elect Cleethorpes, but crucially, we are still 5 points ahead of the last play off place with just 5 games to play.

Bridlington have had a disappointing season, with high expectations of promotion, they have instead found themselves in a relegation battle, currently in the drop zone, but they have given themselves a real fighting chance in the last few weeks winning 4 of their last 5 to move out of the relegation places including big wins against relegation rivals Heaton Stannington and Sherwood Colliery.

Bridlington Town were founded in 1918 as Bridlington Central United, adopting their current name in 1920 and played predominantly in the Yorkshire League before becoming founder members, with Emley, of the NCEL in 1982, during that time, Town enjoyed a rivalry with Bridlington Trinity.

The original club folded in 1994, just 2 years after winning the FA Vase at Wembley, their second final at the twin towers following the 1989-90 final, but they were soon back on the scene in the Driffield and district league, quickly gaining promotions back to the NPL within 8 years, after a spell back in the NCEL, they were promoted again to the NPL in 2021-22 where they have remained since.

Emley will be looking for a league double over Brid following our 2-0 win at Queensgate in November, Emley were backed by a strong, vocal following that day and they'll be hoping for an even stronger home support on Saturday as we look to keep up our record of having never lost at home to Bridlington Town, the last two home games have seen Emley win 2-0, a repeat of that scoreline would do the Pewits nicely!

Last time out:
Ashington 3-1 Emley (Ayres), NPL D1 E, Att- 381
Heaton Stannington 1-4 Bridlington (Coulson 3, Allan) NPL D1 E, Att- 485.
