Emley make the trip to the East coast , the first of two in two weeks when we travel to Bridlington in the Northern Premier League Division One East on Saturday (3pm).
It has been seven years since Emley last travelled to Bridlington for an NCEL League Cup semi-final clash, where they lost to a single goal. Our next away game will be in Cleethorpes, is also on the East Coast, bringing back memories of summer holidays for many Emley fans.
Bridlington Town were founded in 1918 as Bridlington Central United, adopting their current name in 1920 and played predominantly in the Yorkshire League before becoming founder members, with Emley, of the NCEL in 1982, during that time, Town enjoyed a rivalry with Bridlington Trinity.
The original club folded in 1994, just 2 years after winning the FA Vase at Wembley, their second final at the twin towers following the 1989-90 final, but they were soon back on the scene in the Driffield and district league, quickly gaining promotions back to the NPL within 8 years, after a spell back in the NCEL, they were promoted again to the NPL in 2021-22 where they have remained since.
Following an unbelievable unbeaten start to the NPL D1 East season, our last league outing saw us win at Sheffield to maintain our unbeaten away record in the league, The Pewits sit 3rd, five points behind leaders Cleethorpes.
Emley's last league fixture against Ashington was postponed last week but we secured our passage into the Sheffield & Hallamshire cup with a win over AFC Bentley in midweek.
Brid, meanwhile, sit 14th following a recent mixed bag of form, winning away at Sherwood Colliery, then getting thumped 5-2 at home to lowly Ossett , followed then by a win and a defeat versus Heaton Stannington and Newton Aycliffe at home respectively.
Last time out:
Bridlington 0-2 Newton Aycliffe, Att- 213, NPL D1 East
Emley 1-0 AFC Bentley (Curtis), Att- 184, SHSC R2.
