Preview: Bradford (Park Avenue) (H)

Martin Eastwood6 Feb - 21:07

Another Yorkshire derby as the Green Army make the short trip.

Emley host a second successive Yorkshire derby clash at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground as Park Avenue pay their first visit to the Welfare Ground since 1999, their only previous visit to Emley, in a Northern Premier League Division One East clash on Saturday (3pm)

It will be only the 4th competitive meeting between Emley and Bradford PA, there have been 2 draws and a Bradford win (although Wakefield & Emley won 3 games between 2002-04), the last meeting ended in a 0-0 stalemate at Horsfall back in October.

Both teams have experienced differing fortunes over the last few seasons but are in the play off mix with Emley riding high in second place following promotion from the Northern Counties East League and Bradford currently in 7th, they have experience two successive relegations from the National League North.

Bradford (Park Avenue)'s history is a long and interesting one, as is football in Bradford generally, founded in 1907 after Bradford FC abandoned rugby to play Association football, the remaining minority of the rugby side then formed Bradford Northern, now known as Bradford Bulls. the Park Avenue suffix was added to avoid confusion with Bradford City (who also switched from Rugby).

They were members of the football league, (originally taking Fulham's place in the Southern league), until 1970, where they dropped down to the NPL before disbanding in 1974, and were then reincarnated in 1987, playing in the Central Midlands and North West Counties leagues before rejoining the NPL in 1996, they played at National league level for 10 seasons before 2 relegations finds them back in NPL D1 for the first time since 2008.

Avenue have won their last two games handsomely, hammering Pontefract 4-0 and then a 3-0 win over Stocksbridge, both at Horsfall stadium, before those, they had lost 3 out of their last 4.

Emley also beat Stocksbridge 3-0 in an emphatic performance in midweek to extend our unbeaten run to 7 games, 3 successive clean sheets in the league have also helped keep our mean defensive record sound, Bradford also have a pretty decent defensive record too though.

Last time out:
Emley 3-0 Stocksbridge P.S (Berchil 2, Clayton) Att- 501, NPL D1 East
Bradford P.A 3-0 Stocksbridge P.S (Preston, Sykes, Shanks), Att- 337, NPL D1 East.
