Pewits look to improve recent home record against the Colliers.

Emley welcome Ashington to the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground in the Northern Premier League Division One East on Saturday (3pm) for the first ever meeting between the sides.

Last Saturday's 1-0 win at Sheffield kept Emley's unbeaten away record in the league going but at home, our fortunes are much different, all 3 of Emley's league defeats have come at home, 2 of those in the last 3 games with only 1 win at home in the last 4 and no goals in the last 2 home matches.

Altogether, 4 of our 5 defeats this season have been at the Welfare Ground, Saturday's game will be tough test though, despite Ashington sitting 3rd from bottom, to Emley's 3rd from top, the Pewits will be wanting the points to maintain the top 3 spot, while Ashington will be looking to move out of the relegation zone.

Ashington, nicknamed The Colliers were founded in 1883 and played in local regional leagues until becoming members of the Football League, as a founder member of Division Three North in 1921, they were also founder members of the Northern Premier League n 1968.

They spent 8 seasons in the FL before rejoining the North Eastern League as well as playing in other leagues before becoming a founder member of the NPL in 1968, their best run in the FA Cup was a defeat to Nottingham Forest in 1926-27, they were FA Amateur cup semi finalists in 1973-74 and were promoted to NPL D1 East last season.

Interesting fact:- Ashington are the northernmost team to play in the Football League!

Ashington have won 4 games so far in the league but 2 of those in their last 3 games, their only defeats in their last 5 games have been against the top two, Belper and Cleethorpes, Emley's win at Sheffield was only our 2nd win in 6 games.

Last time out:
Sheffield 0-1 Emley (Parkin), Att- 696, NPL D1 East
Ashington 3-1 Newcastle Blue Star (Kneeshaw, Spooner, Ndiweni), Att- 267, Northumberland cup QF.
