Richard Tracey's Emley head into the club’s biggest game for over 25 years when they visit Alfreton Town for an FA Cup 3rd Qualifying round tie on Saturday (3pm).
Following Emley's reprieve in August, they have seen off Lower Breck, Widnes and Mossley, all drawn away from home with Widnes and Mossley, both from a higher division, beaten in replays at the Fantastic Media Welfare ground.
Alfreton will be a different matter though as they are currently 3 levels above Emley in National League North, only 2 divisions below the football league and sit 5th in the table. Emley are the last remaining team from level 9 left in this year’s competition and Alfreton are one of the highest ranked sides.
But Emley, who look to make the 4th qualifying round for only the second time this century, will not be short of confidence; last Saturday's 3-1 win at Brigg Town in the FA Vase made it 10 games unbeaten.
Alfreton, nicknamed, The Reds and formed in 1959, are former members of the NCEL but have played in the Conference/National League since 2004. The club haven't been past this stage of the FA Cup themselves since 2018 so, like Emley, will be keen to progress and avoid being the victims of a giant killing.
The Reds are unbeaten in their last 5 matches and saw off Cleethorpes Town in the previous round.
