Having signed for Manchester United as a trainee in 1998, Danny Webber found over the next five years that his progression to the first team was hampered firstly by injury and secondly by the presence of a quartet of strikers that were the envy of European football. Sheringham, Yorke, Cole and Solskjaer were ideal players to study and learn from. However, their presence did not aid the early progression of Webber, a striker himself.
In five years, Webber made just three first team appearances for United including a substitute appearance in a 2-0 defeat away to Deportivo La Coruna in the European Cup. Whilst at United, he appeared 5 times for the England Under 20 side.
In 2003, despite the offer of a new contract with United, Webber decided to depart for pastures new. He signed for Watford, where in three seasons he made 80 appearances scoring 21 goals.
After a short loan period, he signed permanently for Sheffield United in 2005, where he went on to make 125 appearances scoring 26 goals in just over four seasons. This included helping them to achieve promotion to the Premier League in 2005-06.
Further short spells for Danny followed at Portsmouth, Leeds United and Accrington Stanley before he joined non-league Salford City in August 2014. In two seasons, he scored 31 goals assisting Salford to achieve two promotions. He retired from football in 2016.
Since retirement he has worked as a pundit and commentator for BBC Sport, TalkSport and MUTV.
