Interview with Richard Tracey

Club Admin4 Nov 2023 - 09:43

Interview from Thursday 2nd November 2023

Emley AFC manager Richard Tracey was delighted with the Pewits last outing in the Sheffield and Hallamshire County Cup where they beat Yorkshire Main 8-1. Today they are back to league action against Silsden, 3pm kick off. They sit 5th in the league, two places and one point behind us.

Tracey knows how tough a game this is going to be but is confident his team can overcome the challenge in front of them.

He said: "Silsden are a good side, they have lots of players who have played at this level or higher. We know a few of their lads and so it should make for an interesting but difficult game.

"We have threats too and we know when we click what a good side we can be, I'm looking forward to the fixture."

One player Tracey knows well who they'll be playing against on Saturday is Silsden's Kayle Price. Formerly of Emley's closest rivals Golcar United, Price was the Weavers top scorer last campaign and he's already grabbed 13 goals in all competitions this season.

On Price's threat in particular Tracey said: "We've known about Kayle for a long time, we tried to sign him but it wasn't to be. We know how good he can be on the ball and the threat he has in front of goal."

Following the game away at Silsden, we then face bottom side Bottesford Town on Tuesday night away 7:45pm kick off. Despite Bottesford's plight at the bottom of the table Tracey says they can't take their eye off the ball.

He commented: "We have played Bottesford before and so we know quite a bit about them. They are currently low in the table but that doesn't mean they will be an easy team to face, we'll need to be at our best to beat them.

"They gave us a good game twice last season and so I'm expecting much of the same on Tuesday."

Reflecting back on their 8-1 win over Yorkshire Main Tracey commented: "It was a very good performance by us, it would have been good to get a clean sheet but that wasn't to be, we look forward to the next round in a competition we'd like to win."

The fixture before that was a close 1-0 win over Pickering Town and Tracey was again pleased to get three points on the board.

"I said it would be a difficult game against them and that's just what we got. Thankfully Donae Lawrence got the winner and finished off his chance well which made all the difference. The win keeps the pressure on teams at the top."
