We speak to Emley AFC manager Richard Tracey to reflect on recent results and preview up coming games.

Emley AFC this weekend take on Tadcaster Albion in the Northern Counties East League Premier division and are hoping to stay in pole position at the top of the table.

The Pewits currently sit in 1st place on 63 points after 27 games. That's three points better off than second place Campion who have played two games more. Saturday's opponents Tadcaster sit mid-table in 14th position and have won twice so far in 2024.

Richard Tracey Emley manager gave his thoughts ahead of the fixture, he said: “They had a fantastic result against Handsworth a few games ago. Tadcaster have a very set way of playing.

“They're very brave on the ball and try to do things the right way.

“They look to play out from the back and get the wingers involved and get going forward as fast as possible, we know it won't be an easy game.

“However we have to replicate what we've done against Whickham and battle our way through to three more points.

“I thought it was a great atmosphere last Saturday and the fans really turned out. The atmosphere built before the game last week and we need that again this coming weekend to help us get the win.”

Looking back on the 5th round FA Vase cup tie against Whickham which Emley won 2-0, Tracey said: “I thought in the first half we were a bit untidy. I thought we were a bit nervous on the ball and they looked a bit more comfortable in possession.

“I said to the lads at half time that they have got to trust themselves and be comfortable on the ball and they reacted and that's what happened.

“I think playing uphill seems to suit us a little bit better and I felt like we had enough in us to go and beat them and that's what we did and I was absolutely delighted we got the win.

“I said to the lads at the end that I couldn't have asked anymore from them in those tough conditions and playing on a tough pitch.

“We now move on to the next round with a tough away fixture against Worcester City.”
