On Saturday 13th May Emley held an event to remember

Emley AFC celebrated 120 years of the club with a special celebration dinner in mid-May.

The club’s current players, management, board and volunteers were joined at the John Smith’s Stadium by many of their predecessors as well as sponsors and supporters.

A very successful season was marked with awards for the club’s academy and first team players (View the Player Award’s Announcement)

There were also special presentations made to create three new life members - in recognition of their significant service and achievements.

Gerry Quinn led an Emley team out at Wembley Stadium for our first and, so far, only appearance at the national stadium. Twice league champions - he was the manager the last time the first team won a league title - the NCEL in 1989. Gerry took the club from the NCEL to the NPL Premier - at the time, the second tier of non-league football.

Ronnie Glavin took over as manager in November 1994. Until this season, it was on Ronnie’s watch the club last won a senior honour - the County Cup in 1998. But that season is more memorable for an incredible FA Cup run. From the 1st qualifying round - with wins over Workington, Durham, Belper, Nuneaton, Morecambe and Lincoln City - to the narrow 3rd round defeat at West Ham.

Roy Shirley was chairman at the time of the FA Vase final and is still a valued and active volunteer today 35 years later - having recently celebrated his 90th birthday.
