Academy player signs for Huddersfield Town

Club Admin2 Nov 2023 - 09:00

Massive congratulations to Emley Academy player Donnell Garrick on his move to HTAFC.

The Huddersfield Town Academy has recently completed the signing of Donnell Garrick for the Under-19 group after an extended trial period.

The 17-year-old winger, who has featured in several games for Oran Thompson and Michael Tonge’s youngsters over recent weeks, now joins the Young Terriers on a permanent basis for the 2023/24 season.

Donnell is a local lad, hailing from the Wakefield area, and has previously been on the books of our local non-league neighbours Emley AFC.

Like the path that current B Team midfielder Michael Stone took when he joined the club, he has joined the Academy on a playing contract that will allow him to continue his A Level studies at Greenhead College.

Football runs in the family for Donnell; his older brother Jordon Garrick currently plays for Sky Bet League Two side Forest Green Rovers.

Head of Academy Recruitment Lee Mellor commented: “Donnell has applied himself very well during his trial period with us and has earned this longer opportunity with us. He’s clearly got talent, but now the hard work with our coaches begins for him daily!

“We’re always delighted when we can source talented young footballers locally. I would like to thank the good people at Emley for their cooperation in allowing Donnell to continue his journey in football with us.”

In reaction to this fantastic news, Steve Stennett, U18 Emley Academy Coach said: "During the brief period I've known Donnell, I observed his exceptional professionalism in his interactions with both coaches and fellow teammates. Witnessing his effortless glide down the wing was an absolute joy to see. On behalf of myself, Conner, and everyone at Emley, we extend our heartfelt best wishes for his future success at Huddersfield Town."
